How We Choose Our Baby Blankets

We think about baby blankets a lot.  It's what we do. We search the earth over to bring you the best baby blankets we can find.  We want to share with you what we look for in a baby blanket.  

First, we look at the material.  Is it natural? Sustainable? Durable? Most of our blankets are cotton or a cotton blend so they are gentle against baby's skin, breathable and they get softer with every wash. We do carry some fleece blankets because they are so very cozy.  We love lace, satin, and silk, too. 

Second, we look for quality workmanship.  We have very high standards when it comes to workmanship. We want our blankets to be handed down through generations so they need to be beautiful and made to last. We strongly prefer that our blankets come from a small manufacturer or a family-owned company that takes pride in their work. All of our blankets come from ethical companies that care about the satisfaction of their customers and employees as much as we do.  

The third thing we look for is the size of the blanket. We prefer smaller, square blankets for swaddling newborns. And, the perfect size is right around 30 inches.  Larger rectangle blankets are better for cuddling and tummy time for babies that are older than 3 months.  We also think wearable blankets for babies who are transitioning out of swaddling and into a regular-sized blanket are fantastic. We will be adding them to our list of products in the fall.

When it comes to style, we choose classic looks, neutral colors, and natural themes.  We are old-fashioned at heart and these looks never go out of style.  The crochet blanket with the flower (granny) squares in bright colors brings back memories of childhood for all of us. We like to think of it as the original weighted blanket - it's like a hug that lasts all night long.
